any small bus inesses are
launched with little more
than an idea and enthusi-
asm but the realities of running a busi-
ness must be faced before long. Entre-
preneurs must arrange for office space,
a phone system, computers and more —
d etails often taken fo r granted by
employees of larger firms. Few new
business owners know where to begin.
For Andrew Pernambuco, CEO of
Deniad, LLC, one of the first steps was
to call Atlantic Voice and Data Solu-
tions (AVDS). Pernambuco and his col-
leagues launched Den iad in Augu st
2004, obtained office space and wanted
to set up shop by the end of October.
They needed many things in order to do
that, not the least of which was a phone
system. That’s where AVDS came in.
“Our business is consulting for
hedge funds, and our experience goes
back nearly 20 years. That being said,
setting up a business is something else

work for a bank, you walk in and have
a telephone and computer and get to
work. Somebody else handles all that.

they wanted out of a phone system.
They needed a tool that would enable
full voice communications from remote
locations.
“That was very key for us,” Per-
nambuco said. “At this stage in our
careers, quality of life is more important
than the hours we put in. It’s important
that our employees enjoy their work.
And part of that is enabling them to do
some of it remotely.”
